Understanding stress and anxiety

Most of us experience some degree of stressful and anxious moments in our lives. When these levels become too high it can affect our quality of life, and ultimately the way we perform. How you feel is your perception to what is going on around you. What may be intolerable for one person may be acceptable to another. It is important to recognise our own response towards a stressful situation and if required develop some new skills to deal with it.

Panic attacks

At some time in our lives we have all experienced some form of panic; perhaps the time we have misplaced our keys or wallets. Panic attacks are a severe form of anxiety that strike quite often out of the blue. These can be quite frightening with symptoms of feeling out of breath, feeling dizzy or faint, or short of breath.
Other symptoms can be:

  • Palpitations or a thumping of your heart
  • Chest pains
  • Feeling sick
  • Hot flushes
  • Feeling short of breath
  • Numbness, or pins and needles

Then after a short period of time you start to calm down and wonder will it happen again? You will then try to stay clear of what caused the panic attack in the first place. All panic attacks are caused by some cause or other and by finding the cause using hypnoanalysis then the symptoms cease to be.

How can you tell if you are under too much stress?

There are many different forms it can manifest itself in; the following are some of the physical symptoms that may be stress-related:

  • Racing pulse
  • Headache
  • Chest and back pain
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Sweating
  • Sleeplessness
  • Nervous twitch
  • Breathlessness
  • Restlessness
  • Tiredness
  • nail biting

You may find yourself depressed and feeling anxious, and taking little interest in life and what's going on, fearing you will fail and dreading the future. Perhaps you may find that you are aggressive and irritable and have lost your sense of humour.

Damage to your health

The more stressed we get the more susceptible we are to its effects, thus someone who is continually suffering with high levels of stress can put their health at risk.
